When we found this cot (aged Approx 1860 - 1880) we were told it was past restoration. It was missing the tops of all four posts, there was no canopy, wheels or bed base. The ironwork was broken, bent and showing signs of rust. Nothing like a challenge. After referencing an original mail order catalogue, the posts were repaired to original, as we had no guide of canopy style, we decided on an arched canopy. The ironwork was repaired and powdercoated and the bed base and wheels were replaced. Finally, we created and styled the lace canopy to finish the restoration.
Now this cot holds a treasured teddy bear collection in Sydney N.S.W. |
